Announcements
I know that I was not able to accommodate everyone with my SI times, and for that I am truly sorry. As always, if you are unable to come to the sessions, the worksheets will be posted on here, and I will post the answers a week before your test.
On the Wednesdays during the weeks of mock exams, I will have our normal SI sessions, but there will be two sessions on Wednesday: one from 1:00p to 2:00p (extra hour) and one from 2:00p to 3:00p (normal hour). On these days, you can come for either session or for both sessions.
I have scheduled all of the mock exams we will have this semester, including the ACS Mock Exam. Those times include the following dates:
Friday, February 8, 2013, from 5:00p to 7:00p in HHB 104
Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 5:00p to 7:00p
in HHB 104
Friday, April 19, 2013,
from 5:00p to 7:00p
in HHB 104
Friday, May 3, 2013,
from 1:00p to 5:00p (ACS Mock Exam)
in HHB 102
I would like to thank everyone for coming to SI this week, and I hope I have been helpful thus far. As a side note, I will be conducting end-of-the-term surveys soon, and I would like everyone to participate. These surveys will allow me to know in which areas I have been helpful and in which areas I can improve. So, please be as honest as possible while at the same time being as diplomatic as possible.
Hey, guys! As you know, the ACS final is coming up. As I have stated in the past, the ACS final will cover material from both semesters of Organic Chemistry. To prepare you for the final,
I have chosen some problems that will highlight the material you will see on the final.
For both semesters of Organic Chemistry, you should do the following problems according to section:
Structure, Hybridization, Resonance, and Aromaticity: all
Nucleophilic Substitution and Eliminations: 1-12, 14-16, 18-19, 21-25, 27, 31-32
Electrophilic Additions: all
Nucleophilic Addition at Carbonyl Groups: 1-4, 6-8, 11-13, 15-16, 18-21
Nucleophilic Substitution at Carbonyl Groups: all but 18 and 20
Enols and Enolate Ion Reactions: 2, 4, 6, 8-9, 14, 17-18, 22, 24, 30
Electrophilic and Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution: all
Free Radical Substitution and Addition: all but 9 and 11-12
Oxidations and Reductions: all
Synthesis and Analysis: 1-4, 6-7, 10, 12, 14-15, 17-21, 24
Please come to the mock exam on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 1:00p to 5:00p in Heritage Hall 102, with the requested problems complete so we can better utilize the time by answering any questions
you may have. I am posting a file that will contain the previous problems in a PDF format, which will allow you to have a printed copy.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at jarcen@uab.edu. Until then, I wish you the best of luck on any tests you have with the remaining week of class and good luck on your other finals.
By the way, here are the helpful links I promised to some of you! I hope they help!
